GATE stands for Going Academically to Extremes. We mainly do activities and projects for members to explore new things outside of class and be creative. When we're not experiencing a global pandemic, we also go on field trips to various locations around Southern California.
Our club's purpose is to encourage students to explore various interests and academic topics beyond their schoolwork and class curriculum. By doing so, we hope that students can learn more about the world around them, gain new perspectives, and figure out or strengthen their current interests.
GATE gives opportunities for gaining knowledge and exposing yourself for new things! Although joining this club doesn't guarantee Einstein-level success, participating in activities and monthly projects can help extend or strengthen your interests!

However, if that isn't enough incentive for you, we also offera medallion for members during their senior year who have earned 200 points and have done a certain amount of monthly projects. Remember, even if you didn't join your freshman year, you still have a chance to earn those points: we've done the math and if you do projects every month, attend fundraisers, and participate in field trips and other activities, there's no reason you can't reach your goal!
In addition to a medallion, cabinet members who have served at least ONE year as an officer of GATE will receive a stole during their graduation!
*** UPDATED REQUIREMENTS ***
To earn a medallion, members must:
• Have a minimum of 200 cumulative points by the end of their senior year
• Class of 2021 ONLY: Complete at least 2 projects by the end of their senior year
• Class of 2022 ONLY: Complete at least 3 projects by the end of their senior year
• Class of 2023 & beyond: Complete at least 4 projects by the end of their senior year
Ways to stay updated with GATE:
1. Join our Facebook group (link on top of this page)
2. Check our website (all Facebook posts will be posted on the website with the exception of Zoom links due to security reasons)
3. Join our email list
4. Follow our Instagram (not recommended because our Instagram is primarily used for advertisement purposes)
To receive news without a Facebook account, join our email list by inputting your email on the top of this page. By doing this, you'll be updated via email about our future activities and meetings.

However, we highly recommend that you create a Facebook account because (1) you'll have faster updates from GATE and (2) most clubs in general rely on Facebook to update club members :)
Monthly projects for a particular month are due on the last day of that particular month (at 11:59 pm).
For instance, monthly project prompts assigned in October are due on October 31 at 11:59 pm.
However, if you want a brief extension for a monthly project deadline, please ask us before the actual due date! (Note: GATE has the right to either approve or deny requests for deadline extensions.)

Basically, the email list is an option for members to receive GATE updates through email instead of through Facebook. If you’re already in the Facebook group, there’s no need to join both the Facebook group and the email list.
You can sign up for the email list by inputting your email at the top of this page.
The email list is currently in beta testing, so please be patient if there are any issues with it!
